Year 12 - Ethnicity

Ethnic minority groups made up 6.4% of the cohort.

However ethnic data and analysis might be slightly skewed by the fact that 8.2% of the Year 12 cohort did not supply information on ethnicity. In addition the non-response/left area proportion is higher for leavers from minority ethnic groups (2.6% for ethnic minority groups compared to 1% for white background groups).

Of those returning information on ethnicity:

  • The most popular choice of route across all minority ethnic groups was continuing in full time education at 91%. This compares with 92.2% for those from a white background
  • The least popular route for all minority ethnic groups was continuing in education part time (less than 16 hours a week) at 0.3%. The same route was also the least popular option for those from a white background (0.1%)
  • A higher percentage of those with white backgrounds (0.5 percentage point difference) were represented in the employed category, 2.8% from white backgrounds compared to 2.3% from minority ethnic backgrounds
  • The NEET figure for those from white backgrounds and from an ethnic minority background are similar (1.6% and 1.9% respectively)
